Week 10

Last week we didn't have a class because of ANZAC day, but the week before that we learned how to use Final Cut Pro to capture the clips that we wanted to use in our two films. This week, we will start editing the footage and looking at how we can add opening/closing credits. We want to look at the original ideas we had of how to show the credits and see if we can make them work, e.g. the black screen with writing on it, our truck logo making its way across the screen. We also finished up our documentation, which involved going through our notes and organising them, and expanding on things where we needed to.

Week 10

This week things are getting pretty tough with all the assignments and final projects coming up. It becomes even worse for my group, as there is basically only one class left to edit because of the Anzac day. I find it impossible for finalise 2 different videos in 4 hours. I have spoken to Rommel about it because he is going to be a filmmaker too, but he wasnt bothered about it as his script is really basic and easy to edit. Moreover, it is really hard to edit the videos in free time because of the classes there (most of the time students need the computer with final cut pro for their own work) and because of our lack of time due to other projects. i wanted to edit it on another computer with final cut pro which I have access to but the version there is newer so if I will use it there I wont be able to work in class anymore. All these is pretty frustrating and confusing to an extend.

Anyway, we will try our best to finalise the project before the due date. on the last group meeting we have decided on the final titles for the video. The club documentary title would be "Trash Bags" as was suggested before and the name of interactive video would be "Wasted", creating correlations with money waste and being wasted on alcohol.

Next week whole group will help me with editing, Anita and Ying working on "Wasted" video and me and Nicole on "Trash Bags".

Week 9

This week I will write about second video. This semester break was shorter then always because half of it were public holidays and members of our group needed to spend some time with their families. Therefore, for second video shoot we had only one day to film. Therefore, we didnt have an opportunity to shoot all scenes according to the draft script. For example, scenes with the way to restaurant, taxi, giving the present and the crowded party. I have changed the script to fix this problem and also hope that shooting more photographs and editing will save the video.

Unlike the first video which was a documentary, for this one we needed a male actor. I tried to contact the same one we used in 3rd semester to shoot "Awkward conversation", but Arabella didnt answer so I asked my boyfriend to participate in the project as "hands of main hero". Another problem with the crew was that on the shooting day my friends couldnt come up for a party so the group members had to act in the final scene themselves. It was really hard because it was only 3 of us so the party looked quiet empty. So I asked Nicole to join us in this scene and my boyfriend was holding the camera this one time.

Luckily, whole kit was working and we could shoot almost everything we wanted and the way we wanted.

Week 8

Its week 8, a first week after our break. We didnt really had a chance to relax much on the break because we were filming during it. We were filming on two days: Friday 2d April for first video and Monday 5th April for second.

First, about the documentary. This time everything was working in technical aspect. But unfortunately, we couldnt get any more permissions but Nicole's workplace. So, we decided to use shots from previous time and new ones together to create intensive 3-minute video.

The hardest part was interviewing people. There were two extremely different behaviours of people we wanted to interview and it affected the process and the results. While guys either were jumping into the shot wanting to be filmed or didnt mind us asking questions about their outfits, girls were trying to hide their faces and themselves or were laughing and couldnt say anything in the camera. I assume that the behaviour patterns were so different because we were interviewing asian people near the asian club.
Anita was an interviewer as she basically wrote the script for the first video. So at some point, another problem appeared as she was that quiet that people couldnt here her at all though it was loud on the tape.

Anyway, we did it and we have some great and funny shots for first video!

Week 6

We developed a detailed script (as detailed as we can go with a documentary) for the first video and decided on the day when we going to film.

The test shoot will be held on Friday night near club Brooklyn hotel, as we already have a permission to film there. The next shoot we having on saturday night, filming different clubs depending on which permissions we gonna have: Club 77, The World Bar,  The Ivy, Hot Damn, Brooklyn Hotel, Trash.

Our documentary script consists of the introduction (including the quotation, the campaign logo, the production title), stylistic ideas, interview questions and the credits (plus funny photographs at the end).

==============================
Today we worked in editing program Final Cut Pro Studio v.6.0.1

1. Logging sheet
2. Capture
3. Assembly
4. Rough cut
5. Final cut

Week 5

Its week 5 now and for today, we prepared our outline of the project and the presentation.

Outline

Essential idea and style
  1. Documentary on club people
The documentary will be made in the form of interview. The interviewer will be asking people near nightclubs what they are wearing, where them got their clothes from and how much it costs (approximately). The purpose of this documentary is to show different ways how people find their outfits and might contain some interesting and unexpected results. Humorous, glamorous and colourful.

  1. Interactive fiction
Second video is an interactive fiction, which is telling story of an average student’s day in the style of a game. The video is teaching how to manage money spending. A viewer has his/her own choice what to do and how to spend the amount of money, which they received in the beginning of the game. The task is to spend less money and have more “fun”.

Audience
We have targeted a wide range of people in some of our previous campaigns, but for our ‘Old School’ campaign we have chosen to focus on tertiary students, who are faced with both the financial difficulties of university life as well as the societal pressure to spend increasingly large amounts of money on whatever items are deemed ‘fashionable’ by the media and their peer group.
The target audience can shortly be described as generation Y (17-25) international and local university students, male and female. The target demographic has short attention spans, want everything now, love “stuff” and are addicted to internet (Huntley, 2006). The hypothesis needs to be proven by academic and independent research among Insearch and UTS students.

Distribution platform
The videos will be distributed through the internet on such websites as vimeo.com, youtube.com and our campaign website. Second video might be further distributed as an iPhone application.

Week 4

The first assignment is due today. It is a web documentary review. This interactive documentary impressed me so much and I came up with an idea that we can do something similar to that in terms of interactivity. We have lot of different ideas for the video and we are going to discuss it on our group meeting this week.

Our group also defined the roles in preproduction, production and postproduction.

Nicole - Camera operator, Cinematographer
1. Find location
2. Storyboard
3. Camera operating
4. Communicating with director, sound, light
5. Checking equipment, charge batteries
6. Tapes check, reflections
7. Focus, frames, setting of the camera, exposure shadow speed dial, white balance.

Ying - Sound, Light, Outfits
1. Check id sound is clear, test location if its suitable
2. Sound recording with camera operator
3. Sound effects and editing sound
4. Microphones and tech
5. Styling of the set and actors outfits if applicable

Anita - Producer, Project manager
1. Buy tapes
2. Copyright and locations' permissions
3. Budgeting, safety of crew and equipment
4. Manage meetings
5. Food, props, travel costs
6. Production scheduling

me - Director, Writer, Editor
1. Script writing/editing
2. Directing cinematographer
3. Working with actors and other crew members
4. Editing the video, edit script
5. Video logging sheet (the one Rommel did in previous semester)

At the end, we will need a DVD + cover and individual evaluations.

======================================

We decided to film two videos, first one is an interactive mockumentary and second would be  documentary on club people (how much they clothes cost, where they got it from).

Week 3

Our group started to come up with ideas for the video we are going to shoot. It definetly going to be connected with our campaign, because it will make the campaign more visual and fun.

We are still deciding on the topic of our campaign, and basically it is a social awareness campaign aimed at students, the campaign is about student personal spending and student budgeting, clothes and anti-consumerism.

So far, we have several ideas for the video:

1) it might be several (three) short films in different styles: punk/grunge/bnw, retro/vintage and hippy/flowerpower.
2) video with reversed dressing: first we are showing several girls/boys dressed up in great outfits, then we are showing how and where they found them (op-shops, second-hands, retro vintage shops, hand-made)
3) interviews with people on streets, we will ask them what they are wearing, is it branded, etc

Week 2

During this week, our group decided on the topic for the campaign so we can start working on the project. We had different ideas, such as legalize, racism, women's rights, body image, etc but we have chosen slightly modified idea of Ying, student budgeting and money management.

We started to think about overall look of our campaign and video included. Though the topic sounds pretty dry and boring, our aim is to make it look cool in eyes of the audience, the eyes of youth. Therefore, started to discuss what type of videos will interest our audience. As we are students ourselves and we didnt start surveys to ask random students about what they want, at the moment we can judge what student will like only basing on our ideas.

So, key characteristics of the video (or videos) should be:
1) easy to understand
2) related o the topic
3) fun and viewer friendly
4) original
5) high quality
6) interesting to follow the plot

Week 1

MMMM, so, we are starting our project. Its first week and I was sick for all week so could not participate in shaping groups and topics. As Angelina told me, Ros decided to put me in the group with Anita, Ying and Nicole.

As I knew from my friends Clement, Jo, Andy and Kiota who graduated from Insearch UTS a semester ago, in the 4th semester our work in groups would be devoted to creating a social awareness campaign. On holidays I started to think what kind of theme can we cover and how to present it through video made in comm416. Of course, I was excited about this work as in the previous semester we didnt have a chance to edit and finalize the project dragged into a routine of paperwork.

No matter what topic we will choose to cover for the campaign, the video would be related to it and the visuals of the video would be: saturated colors, brightness, fast motion effects, funny parts and originality.

week1-YING

In week1, we were informed about what we have to do this semester in this subject.
Our final project include making a single or a few seperate short videos which will have a total duration of around 5 minutes. Unlike last semester, for this project we will be learning and participating in the post-production stage of making short films which include alot of image and sound editing using a software called Final-Cut-Pro. we are required to hand in the complete, edited videos on DVD to be marked.

week2-YING

In week 2, we have finalised our group members and individual roles.

Valeriya- director
Anita- producer
Nicole- cinematographer
Ying- sound operator

As our group has set up a social awareness campaign for other subjects this semester, we have decided that for this subject, we will make short and entertaining videos relating to the theme and topic of our campaign. The videos can then be embeded into our campaign's website and act as part of our promotional strategy to create awareness and to reach our target audience.

week3-YING

In week3, we watched an interactive web documentary in class, called 'Journey to the end of coal' and were inspired by its unique form of filming and editing. We liked the visual of the documentary which consists of earthy toned still photographs, the simple but effective sound design and especially liked the interactivity of the documentary where it is like a game where you can find information for yourself. Our group has decided to make one of our two short films as an interactive video which will be similar but simpler version of 'Journey to the end of coal'.

week4-YING

In week 4, we worked on finalising ideas for both of our videos.
As the topic of our social awareness campaign is about financial manaement for students and reducing unnessesary expenses such as fashion, we have decided to make our first video a documentary which involves interviews with students on a night out to clubs and bars about their spending habits on fashion and entertainment. The second video would be our interactive video(game) which involves the audience to plan and make financial decisions for one day in the persona's life.

We simply prepared how to pitch our ideas of the project to class next week.

Week 8

This week, we looked at our rushes in class and learnt how to edit them on Final Cut Pro. We went through all the footage we'd filmed and worked out what we wanted to use and what we didn't, and discussed ways to edit the footage to achieve the effect that wanted, e.g. editing so that we emphasise the pauses in people's answers for comedic effect.
We didn't get all the footage we wanted so we also discussed how we could use the footage we do have.

week9-YING

Today in class we are working on our blog which is due next week.
We began our post-production stage which involves going through the tapes, filling in video logging sheets which helps us to determine the good and bad shots and the minutes to capture for final editing.

Sunday, April 11, 2010

week8-YING

Today in class we went through both of our rushes tapes. We connected our cameras with our tapes in it to the computer and opened up final cut pro. Lighting and framing was great in both videos, and sound was better in the club documentary than the interactive video. However, we will be doing more post-production and sound editing on the second video. as regarding to image quality, Little fuzz appear on both videos in preview, hopefully it will disappear once we finish capturing and editing.

Week 7.5

This week we filmed all the footage for our interactive video- which was basically just us filming a guy waking up after a party and surveying the damage done to his room ( there was, conveniently, broken glass outside the balcony that we worked into the shot, and we added some clothes on the floor, a very large ashtray  and lots of bottles of alcohol to make it look like there had been a party there the night before). There was also a bit in the city, where we filmed a guy walking around the shops and going into a few...one tiny problem was that people walking past kept giving us weird looks/waving so it looks like the person we're filming is really ugly/popular! But that can be edited out. As the producer, I didn't have much to do on the day besides offer suggestions as to how to set up certain shots, and how to film the party scene at the end and make it look like there were lots of people in the room when it was really just the four of us.

Last week, we also filmed more footage for our documentary 'Trashbags' outside the Brooklyn Hotel. No other places got back to me, but we did manage to get quite a bit of footage of people talking. A few people were a bit shy, though, but I interviewed some interesting people.

week7B-YING

On tuesday, we shot our second short video. We finished the first part of the filming in QVB in the city with Valeriya and nicole taking the camera into the building and shops, and the second part in Valeriya's house. As the sound operator of the project, I had less responsibility in this shooting as sound recording was not important in the production stage. However, in post production, background sounds and music are needed.

week7A-YING

This thursday night, we went to Brooklyn hotel again to shoot at a special Easter event with special guests from overseas performing. There were more people this time comparing to last week and our shooting went smooth besides a few girls who did not want to be interviewed. As a sound operator, I tested both the level of sound of interviewees and background noise from the earphones and sound was great and there was not a lot of noise interference during interviews.

week5-YING

This week we pitched our ideas for our short films to the class and got some useful feedbacks. Our first film which is the short documentary about young people's outfits on weekends outside night clubs received positive feedbacks and suggestions of a test shot at the location at night to test the sound and lighting were made. Our second film, the interactive video was seem to be more challenging due to the post production work.

week6-YING

This week we took our filming equipments out to the shooting location and did a test shot at the place. We set up the equipments at 9:30 and had permission to film at Brooklyn Hotel. Our main goal of the night was to test the lighting and sound because we have never filmed at night in the city, and were worried about the level of light exposures and loud sound interference.
After setting up, we found that there is a good source of light outside the hotel, however, there was problems with the earphone and sound connection so i could not hear any sound. However, reaction and attitudes of the people who we have chosen to shoot was great, most people were happy to be apart of the interview or simply be appearing in our project. We will be sure to check all our equipments before the next shoot.

Week 7

Hey hey hey. Thats week 7 already. So, Im gonna tell you about our progress.

On weekend we tried to film our first video. Friday was supposed to be the test day, while we are waiting for permission to film in different clubs. So far, we had one permission from Brooklyn Hotel on George St. We picked up the equipment on Friday at 1pm, checked if everything is there, then charged batteries at home and met near the location at 9pm.

Unfortunately, it turned out that the tripod is broken: one leg cant be fixed in one position. I assume that it is the same tripod which was broken the previous semester. So, we decided to film without tripod though we needed it for interviews.

When we started filming the crowd near clubs we found out that our sound person cant hear anything through headphones. We tried to fix it but it was clear that camera is picking the sound through both micros and the problem is with headphones' input.

We ended up shooting general scenes like the line to the club, the way to the club, people in the line, streets. We can use it later in video with music on the background.

On saturday I was helping a UTS student with an Avatar inspired photoshoot and filmed a part of process to practice.

Week 10

Today is ANZAC day so the class is canceled. It is too bad because we could only use the computer which with Final Cut Pro and got our captures to edit our films, however, we got 2 films captured in one computer, plus Insearch is closed because it is public holiday, we only have two classes to finish our editing. It is impossible for Valeriya to finish them all, so we have to work together with Valeriya from next week. Anita and Ying will work on “Wasted” (the interactive video), me and Valeriya will work on “Trash Bags” (interview). The second assignment of COMM 416 and COMM 418 are both due on this Thursday, hopefully we can do it.

Week 9

It's week 9 already, heaps of assignments are killing us. Valeriya has finished capturing the scenes. I’ve been researching on how to make the interactive video for a week. Also, I’ve finished drawing the story board for the interactive video.

Here I want to show some tutorial videos and websites I’ve found were useful and helpful:

Week 8

Today is the first class since we are back from the Easter holiday. Valeriya started to edit the videos that we have shot during the holiday.

As we've got two videos which last over 80 mins we couldn't captured them all because it would take too much time. So Valeriya decided to review the recordings and get the log-in sheet done first. She planned to capture the chosen scenes only according to the log-in sheet. I was sitting next to her helped finish this work.

According to the instruction of how to make the log-in sheets, we marked our videos as 4 tapes since there were gaps occurred caused by rewinding during recording. We got the log-in sheet done by the time class was over.

Week 7

We had a week of study break last week but we didn’t neglect our studies! We finished our interview shooting on Friday, 1st April. The night was awesome! We captured lots of interesting interviews and most of them were hilarious.

We took that Easter Monday to film our second film, that interactive video. Joel was the actor and he really helped us a lot. He sometimes took my job as the camera operator whilst he was acting because it would be better and easier if he could use one hand to hold that camera and shoot his the other hand.

We are happy that we’ve done all the shooting tasks. ^o^

Week 6

We decided to have a test shooting day before the study break week this Friday because we were not sure if the lightening and loud sound interference outside of the club would be the problems of recording the interview.

We borrowed the prop after class and arrived to Brooklyn Hotel by 9:30. After we set up everything, we started filming. There was a theme event called The Ladies’ Night so there were lots of girls had great outfits. We thought that maybe we could just keep the record as the part of the footage. Everything was good except Ying (our sound recorder) couldn’t hear anything from the headphone. We tried to adjust the setting but still didn’t work. We thus stopped filming but kept the recording because we thought it probably the headphone’s problem.

Here we took some photos:

Week 5

Today we pitched the ideas of our short films to the class and received many valuable feedbacks. We decided to make two films. The first one will be a documentary video in the form of interview. The interview will be in relation to the outfits of the club party animals on the weekend nights. The other one will be the interactive film as we discussed last week. The story line basically center around an average uni student’s general day but in a game mode. Endings will be set up, audience need to finish the day (reach the different endings) by choosing the options from different tasks such as how much they will spend on friend’s birthday.

As the cinematographer, I watched some interview documentary and interactive videos on Youtube (such as "Jubliee Boat Party Interview with Louise da Tease" and "Dress Us!" ), I think I have had the general ideas in mind of how my two films will be looked like. The interview documentary, we’ll interview people who are wearing gorgeous, unique, standout or interesting clothes and stuff outside of the night club while they are lining up. When we are recording, I’m going to hold camera by hands instead of using the tripod because the outcome is going to be more natural and effective especially after postproduction. The second film, the interactive video, we decided to shoot it in the audience’s point of view, so the actor’s face will not be appeared, only his hands will be in the frames. Toula told us me that to shoot this kind of scenes, I just need to stand behind the actor and hold the camera higher him and that’s it. I have to try very hard to cooperate well with the actor.

I met the boss Kenneth Lee of the club event organizing company Next Generation Entertainment later today. He had given me the oral permissions of shooting around Brooklyn Hotel on Friday nights and Martin Place Bar on Saturday nights.

Week 4

We handed in our first assignment today. This assignment was to write a review of an interactive web-documentary called ‘Journey to the End of Coal.’ After we handed in all our assignments we started to discuss our final project.

Valeriya looked extremely excited as she came up the idea of making a similar video in terms of interactivity. We were all cool with that. We worked out some ideas of doing this interactive video such as “My Day”, that the main character would spend a day with the limited budget. Similar like a game, how the day (the game) was going to be end would depend on how the audience would select their options during the day.

We also assigned the roles of our project crew and distributed the tasks each person should do while we were working on our project. Valeriya kept the copy of the hand writing.

Anita- producer & Project Manager:
1. Buy tapes
2. Copyright and locations' permissions
3. Budgeting, safety of crew and equipment
4. Manage meetings
5. Food, props, travel costs
6. Production scheduling

Valeriya- director, writer, editor:
1. Script writing/editing
2. Directing cinematographer
3. Working with actors and other crew members
4. Editing the video, edit script
5. Video logging sheet (the one Rommel did in previous semester)

Nicole- cinematographer, camera operator:
1. Find location
2. Storyboard
3. Camera operating
4. Communicating with director, sound, light
5. Checking equipment, charge batteries
6. Tapes check, reflections
7. Focus, frames, setting of the camera, exposure shadow speed dial, white balance.

Ying- sound designer, sound recordist, outfit supervisor:
1. Check id sound is clear, test location if its suitable
2. Sound recording with camera operator
3. Sound effects and editing sound
4. Microphones and tech
5. Styling of the set and actors outfits if applicable

In addition, we will need a DVD + cover and individual evaluations.

Week 3

Two weeks have past. Since Valeriya's back, we have decided our topic of our campaign. Our social awareness campaign will center on students' overspending and consumerism. We are aiming to give students advices of personal finance and budget management, and promote anti-consumerism. Other members didn't like the idea of making a film of swapping clothes so we still have to think about what we would film for this final subject.

By the end of the class, we had come up with some ideas:

1. making several short films instead of one. Styles would be different: punk/grunge, retro/vintage, hippy/ flower power...

2. video with reversed dressing: first we are showing several girls/boys dressed up in great outfits, then we are showing how and where they found them (op-shops, second-hands, retro vintage shops, hand-made)

3. interviews with picked people on streets, we are going to ask them to talk about their outfits, if their clothes are branded, etc...

During the class, Toula showed us a web-documentation called “Journey to the End of Coal”. We will write a review of this web-doc as our first assignment. So we will work on our first assignment as the priority on this weekend.

Week 2

Groups and members have been divided and decided in Ros' class, I will work with Ying, Anita and Valeriya this semester. We've got some ideas of the social awareness campaign: raising money for providing food and shelter for those homeless people; environmental issues such as the pollution of chewing gum; safe driving; party drug and swapping cloths. Ros liked the idea of swapping clothes, she said swap clothes could be a media vehicle to support a students' budget management campaign. We could hold an event called swapping clothes party.

We thought we could record the real whole process or set up some scenes to film.

Also, we watched three videos in class: 9/11 The Falling Man, Kotta Walks- Performing Locality, and Butterfly man. We discussed the camera shooting skills during class and I found hand holding camera is a great technique to catch the face expressions well.

Week 1

Ok, it's COMM416, the final stage of Communication Skills. I still remember how much fun we had in doing the filming project last semester and now I'm really looking forward to film another movie and to know who I will work with. I'm also excited because not as boring as last semester, we will have chance to edit our movie after filming. I hope I can have time to do some editing of ALARM (our project done by semester 3) by the end of this semester, too.

During the class I heard that this semeter we would have lots of group works regarding to launch and promote a social awareness campaign, so that the movie I would film would be better to relate to the campaign. I thought it would be easier for us as we would not need to rack our brains to think about the theme.

As today was the first day of semester 4, we haven't been broke into groups but I knew I would work with Ying again this semester, so we started to think about the ideas of the campaign and films in class and on our way home.

Week 7

So over the weekend, we had our very first test shoot. We met at the Brooklyn Hotel a bit before 10pm, where Nicole got permission from the owners because she works there. We planned on filming the line, doing a few interviews and just checking the light and sound and making any adjustments that needed to be done before we did our proper shoot in a few weeks.

Trouble is, the sound didn't work. Or rather, the microphones were picking up sound but we weren't hearing it on the headphones. We had a few goes at trying to fix the sound, but it didn't work. So instead, we decided to get some visuals- we got some random drunk people giving each other piggybacks, if I remember correctly, as well as a party bus where the people were all waving at each other, and a tracking shot where we walked down the road to the club with the camera, and in post-production we'll speed it up as part of the opening credits or something.
We're going to have to do a proper shoot later on once we have proper equipment and permission from the clubs/councils I emailed.

Week 6

This week, I started emailing places to get filming permission. I've tried a few clubs and haven't heard from any of them yet, so I also tried City of Sydney Council and Marrickville Council so we can get permission to shoot on the streets around the CBD and Newtown. I don't have to worry about the test shoot this weekend because Nicole already got permission from the Brooklyn Hotel, though.

I also started working on a list of questions that we can ask people, about what they're wearing and what they think clothes say about people. Similar to those red-carpet shows where they just ask the celebrities what they're wearing. Except we want to get some footage of really wasted people, just for comedic effect. The plan is to open with a black screen, serene piano music ( I could ask my friend Steph if we can use a piece she composed so we don't have to worry about copyright laws) and a Coco Chanel quote. Then, a truck ( our logo) comes driving across the screen, pushing out the quote, loud rock music starts playing and the word 'Trashbags' appears. Then at the end, to be ironic, we'll have a Paris Hilton quote that says exactly the same thing as the Chanel quote (something about being different and not blending in) and a bunch of outtakes of really wasted people, or girls carrying their heels in their hands, or something to emphasise the 'trashbag' aspect of the film.

Week 5

This week we presented our idea for our project(s) to the class- essentially, a documentary and an interactive game with short video clips to put on our campaign website along with the documentary. The documentary's going to be called 'Trashbags'- a reference to our Trash 'n' Treasure campaign and the drunk people- the 'trashbags' - that we will be filming. The plan is to interview people in the lines outside clubs about their fashion choices and what they believe clothes say about a person. The fact that a lot of the people we interview will be drunk will add to the project's comedic effect and make it relatable to our target audience-uni students.

We aren't really sure what to do for the interactive one yet, just some sort of game that makes people realise how easy it is to spend money on stuff you don't need.

Week 4

This week we decided that we wanted to do 2 videos- one, a documentary about fashion (most likely interviewing people in lines outside clubs) and an interactive video similar to the webdoc 'Journey to the Centre of Coal' .  One idea we had was to film a day in the life of a student, and all the various decisions they have to make about what to spend each day. The idea behind it is to show how easy it is to spend money unnecessarily when you're a student.

We wrote down a few ideas of places where we could go to film specific types of people, and a few possible questions that we could ask them,as well as ideas about how we wanted the documentary to look.i.e. did we want to be visible as the creators of the documentary, or be 'invisible'?

Week 3

This week we organised our roles for our group project.I'm the producer, which means I'm in charge of compiling all the documentation for the project as well as co-ordinating what everyone else is doing and getting permission for various locations if we need it. We haven't decided what we want to do yet, but we were thinking of making a few short films as opposed to one long one. We also like the idea of doing a documentary because we wouldn't have to do a storyboard, and it would be interesting to do one on the same subject matter as our campaign- ie. student spending/consumerism.

Week 2

This week we organised groups for the film project. I'm in a group of 4 with Valeriya,Ying and Nicole, and we want to make a film that's related to our social awareness campaign on student budgets/consumerism. We won't be starting proper planning for a few weeks though, because we have another assignment for this class due next week and we'll most likely be busy with that for the next couple of weeks.

Week 1

This week we found out about our assessments for this semester, and what we need to do. We're doing another big film project like last semester but this time we have to do editing as well. I'm not in a group yet, though.
